Saddle: Client choice, re-upolstered in Alacantra by BusymanĬlick the link below to get your own ArchAngel or any of the steeds offered by Bastion.Technology and art have always combined in bicycles. One man’s treasure is another man’s poison but whether your treasure is a hand-built lugged steel machine draped in 8-speed Campagnolo or SRAM eTap hanging off a bang-up-to-date creation, the beauty, and elegance of a bicycle are indisputable.īastion Cycles are taking this perfect marriage up a notch by – according to their own strapline – ‘Engineering a New Art Form’. They sent one our way for a brief dalliance. We drooled over it as we pulled it out of the box, then clocked up some miles to see what it was all about.īefore we get into the bike itself, who are Bastion and what are they doing, for those who don’t know? Without diving headlong into the technical detail, Bastion are combining 3D-printed titanium lugs with filament-wound carbon tubes.Cages: King Cage Titanium with CeraKote finish.Wheelset: Lightweight Meilenstein EVO Schwarz Ed.OSPW: CeramicSpeed 3D printed with Cerakote finish on pully wheels.Crankset: Bastion BC01 with or without SRM Powermeter and Carbon-Ti chainrings.Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM Red AXS or Campagnolo Super Record EPS.They also want you to know that “while not exclusively reserved for existing clients, priority will be given to those who own or are in the process of purchasing one of Bastion’s other models. The price for this bicycle is available upon request, which Bastion claims is a “true indication of its prestige”, AKA, ‘if you have to ask…’. The press release continues: “With only 88 units available, and 25% already allocated, the ArchAngel is sure to be a highly sought-after collector’s item.” Pricing and Specsheet They also picked every component knowing that it would contribute to the bike’s enhanced aesthetic and performance, stating that “every single component and every detail has been carefully selected to elevate the overall experience of the rider” With the rapid adoption of 3D printing in bicycle frames, like the fine examples found in No.22 and Stein&Fenton frames and components, Bastion feels that what sets them apart is their use of the tech to create “remarkably beautiful, yet functional forms where the work of their craftspeople can shine”.Įvery element of the ArchAngel has been meticulously designed, according to the Bastion team. He continues, “ the artwork protrudes from the surface of the lugs for the first time, creating a sculptured presence that truly takes advantage of our 3D Printing technology“. “ The literal representation of an angel can be seen in the artwork adorning each lug, says Charlie, a Bastion designer. More than just the technology, the way “Kelly” Johnson led the Skunkworks projects with cross-functional team members working together at the same time to solve problems had a big impact on me and drives how we conduct projects today, including this one“. “ The design of the A-12 ArchAngel was instrumental in inspiring me towards my engineering career. James Woolcock, Bastion Co-founder and COO had this to say: Now, with the ArchAngel, which they claim is “the most highly specified production bike ever released”. The ArchAngel is said to be designed and developed entirely in-house, with “every detail of the bike being sculpted with precision and purpose, evoking lines and spirit of the world’s first titanium-skinned aircraft, the A-12 ArchAngel”.īastion Cycles states that they “cemented their reputation as leaders in additive manufacturing” by releasing the first commercially available 3D-printed bike 7 years ago. The ArchAngel will strictly be limited to just 88 units worldwide. The name is a subtle “nod” to a CIA spy plane leading to a bike they’re calling the pinnacle of their design and engineering. Australian-born Bastion Cycles, a bespoke bicycle manufacturer, just announced a very limited release of the ArchAngel.

In our lab, CR’s engineers put vacuum cleaners from brands like Bissell, Dyson, iRobot, LG, Miele, Shark, and Tineco through a set of tough tests to evaluate how well a model picks up dirt, how much debris it retains, how easy it is to maneuver, and how noisy it is. “A robotic vacuum can help with maintaining your pristine floors, and a stick can help with quick messes alongside your bigger upright or canister.” “For some people, it might make sense to have multiple vacuums for different situations,” says Frank Rizzi, a senior lab technician who tests vacuums at CR. But while these convenient contenders may deserve a spot in your cleaning arsenal, they still can’t replace your trusty upright or canister, according to Consumer Reports’ vacuum tests. Robotic vacuums have also become more capable cleaners, and their prices keep dropping, making them worth a look, too. The performance of cordless stick vacuums continues to improve, though based on our exclusive member survey, reliability remains a concern. Still, with vacuum cleaners ranging from under $50 to well over $1,500-and in configurations that range from a slim stick vacuum to a beefy canister model-it can be difficult to figure out which one is right for your home. does not make any credit decisions. You can spend a lot on a vacuum, but you don’t need to empty your wallet to get one that cleans well. It also completely lacks the swagger of the FIFA Street games – this tone is cringey by 2020's standards, but it did give those games their own flavor, which Volta doesn't really have. While some rules are different, such as what counts as a good tackle and what’s closer to physical assault, it doesn’t do nearly enough to differentiate itself from the core football game. This mode attempts to play to the (more) casual audience with smaller 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5 games. The progression of players via training and development is somewhat more in-depth this time, but it obviously lacks the micromanaging that the Football Manager series excels in.įIFA's poor homage to FIFA Street, Volta, returns. Modes such as Career and Pro Clubs have received very minor upgrades. Volta doesn’t capture FIFA Street’s magic.Minor changes don’t paper over decade-old problems. There are far better and less frustrating ways to monetize full-price games, and this is still a big caveat in recommending FIFA these days. This mode should not have a place in gaming in 2020 – at least not in this form. Even for those willing to invest more than double the price of the game, access to the highest-tier cards and the world’s most popular players is entirely determined by luck. That said, a player who spends no money is at a disadvantage compared to those willing to spend hundreds of pounds on packs, to the point where it basically feels insurmountable. Technically, you don’t have to spend a single penny to play Ultimate Team outside of the price of the game. This is how players recruit new members of their dream team and acquire consumable items, both of which can be sold for coins, the in-game transfer market’s virtual currency. Outside of that, the mode is still entirely focused on opening packs of virtual items. While this might seem like a good thing, since the ongoing frustration FUT provides is more tolerable with a friend, the lack of its inclusion in the competitive mode FUT Champions is a missed opportunity. The microtransaction-hungry, football-themed sticker book simulator faces its biggest change in years, with the ability to play Division Rivals, Squad Battles and Friendlies in co-op. Ultimate Team is a big focus of each and every FIFA game, and that's no different this year. New co-op mode makes losing to 12 year-olds a team sport.Ultimate Team receives the most attention. While we've certainly scored some unbelievable goals so far in our time with FIFA 21, opponents will frequently respond in kind, confounding your clueless defense despite your best efforts. Combining one of these with a player of natural heading talent is deadly. Being on the attack feels more fun than it has in years.Ĭrossing has also received a major boost, with a new Trent Alexander-Arnold-style whipped cross being added to the arsenal of the world’s best wingers. Every angle feels like a viable means of attack, opening the possibility for spectacular solo efforts or elegant moments of team play. Our favourite element of this year's FIFA is by far the shooting, which has undergone sensible changes. Still, some improvements have definitely been made. Switching to a specific player is a lottery of flicking the right stick and hoping that the game doesn’t hand you control of your clueless central midfielder, while your opponent’s nippy striker leaves a player-shaped mound of dust on the edge of your box. Passes will simply refuse to go in the desired direction, no matter how many of the in-game assists you turn off. Online games are hindered by players exploiting broken mechanics.Īttackers comfortably retained possession of the ball, despite a quartet of defenders attempting to dispossess them. There are broken animations that have been in the game for half a decade. It’s stuck in a limbo of decaying old systems, causing problems when combined with new ones. The issue is, though, FIFA can’t decide whether it wants to be a game for the hardcore Ultimate Team eSports player or the pals on the couch that play a few games after the pub. If your internet connection is not perfect, you’re left playing a game of predictive football, hoping that the challenge you made will actually connect when it reaches the game. You'll see the same types of defensive errors happening repeatedly, as well as the lack of responsiveness on inputs such as skill moves. It’s only when you spend a lot of time with the game, especially online, that you begin to see the cracks form. It was featured on Denver's 1975 album Windsong. You can pre-load Outriders on your console. Pre-load is already available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X players who pre-order the game. There is no way to pre-load the game on PC, and Stadia does not require any pre-loading. If you install the game early, you’ll be able to play right at the release time. Yes, it does! Your story progress through the game’s first chapter, as well as any level, character progression, resource collection, and world tier progression you have made in the demo will carry over. The only catch is that you have to be within the same system family. For example, PS4 progress will transfer over to PS5, but not to Xbox Series X, PC, or Stadia. On Reddit, People Can Fly also highlighted some of the improvements the final game will have over the demo outside of just more content. Many bugs have been fixed, weapon, enemy, and loot drop balance has gotten tweaked, crossplay is on by default, and DirectX 12 is supported on PC.Īdditionally, you can “quick mark” items in your inventory, the cover system is more intuitive, the Travel Voting system is slightly improved, and the Mod descriptions now mention cooldown mechanics. The demo is a separate download from the final game, so don’t expect an update to upgrade it at launch. Thankfully, the demo will remain live after Outriders’ release, so you can always try that out on PC or PlayStation consoles if you're not entirely sure you want the game. Is Outriders on Xbox Game Pass at launch? Xbox players have a better option, though. Microsoft and Square Enix have confirmed that the Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions of Outriders will be on Xbox Game Pass for consoles right from April 1. As long as you have a subscription, you can just download the game without buying it if it interests you. There is a lot to commend in Outriders, but I am totally fine with finishing the main quest and moving on from it.This is one of the first major AAA releases outside of Microsoft to come to Xbox Game Pass right at launch, so Outriders may turn out to be a crucial game in the subscription service’s history. I may come back now and then to try some expeditions, and if I see the DLC on sale for a reasonable price I'd be interested in it. But I was never drawn into caring about the world or characters, so after I beat the campaign, I felt like I was personally done with it for a while. I'm sure I'll be happy to come back to the game now and then. I found it hard to really care about the story and that lowered my desire to do things like side-quests and endgame activities. The shooting was good, perhaps even great. When I purchased Outriders, I was hoping it would be good and I was mainly looking for something to tide me over between games. So much of the gameplay turned out to be quite impressive, so keep that in mind when I say ultimately I was happy to be finished with the game so I could move on to something else. That means you can mostly play the way you'd like. The loot system was nice because as you dismantle loot you get the abilities from the loot you dismantle so you get a lot of ways to customize your gear (for a price). The shooting was fast and furious and the encounters are mostly designed to keep you moving and using your abilities as much as possible. I did a quick play-through of the main campaign and found myself really enjoying the shooting, most of the encounters, and the item looting/leveling system. Only other game that I purchased this year I can say that for was probably Last of Us, although I had to wait for the devs to make that game stable enough to play. I don't even know why I decided to buy it and play it last week, but now that I have I honestly can say it was not a waste of money. The game is a fun looter shooter and one of the best co-op games to date in my opinion. Instead it does updates like games use to, in the form of DLC. Most people just complain about the lack of updates, even though the developers flat out said it's not doing live service. Graphics are nice, I've very few if no crashes and I don't seem to have stutter issues. I've been playing for more than a day and Im just now getting to the middle of the campaign it seems. It reminds me of how games use to be before the whole "Live Service" model started flooding the game industry.
